Arab states snub US over Israel resolution at IAEA meeting

Arab states refused Thursday to drop plans to chide Israel over its assumed nuclear arsenal at a UN nuclear conference next week, despite US suggestions that such a move would jeopardize Middle East peace talks.

"The Arab Group urges to keep the item 'Israeli nuclear capabilities' on the agenda of the general conference and ... will submit a draft resolution" to the assembly next week, Sudan's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency Mahmoud El-Amin said, speaking on behalf of 22 Arab states.
