DFA vows justice for Maid brutally killed in Saudi

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday said it will pursue a case against the suspect involved in the brutal killing of a Filipina worker in Saudi Arabia.

DFA Secretary Alberto Romulo ordered the Philippine embassy in Riyadh to press charges once the suspect has been identified.

The victim, Romelyn Eroy Ybañez, was discovered dead in the kitchen of her employer’s home in Al Khobar. Her body bore several stab wounds to the neck, abdomen and wrist. She also had traces of acid burns in her mouth area, arms and legs.

Earlier reports said that an almost empty container of sulfuric acid was recovered from the crime scene.

The overseas Filipino worker was brought by the Red Crescent to the King Fahd Hospital on September 8, but died.
For his part, Philippine Ambassador Antonio Villamor said that they will hire the best lawyers for the case.

The Philippine embassy was also directed to work closely with Saudi authorities for the thorough investigation on the OFW’s death and to facilitate the immediate repatriation of her remains.

Ybanez’s relatives in Cotabato have been notified about her death. The DFA Regional Consular Office Cotabato is currently providing on-site assistance to her family.
